ZUS to write off PLN 315m in old debts — collection costs exceed the returns
Poland's Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) is set to write off around PLN 315 million in contribution debts that arose before 1 January 1999 and are not secured by mortgage, affecting approximately 7,100 payers. The Labour Ministry argues that further debt collection is uneconomical: over a decade it would cost about PLN 135 million while recovering less than PLN 14 million. The write-off requires legislative changes.
