id Software dev: Microsoft 'burned a lot of bridges' and 'fundamentally doesn't understand games'

Chris Hays, lead services programmer at id Software, gave a scathing assessment of Microsoft after the company cut 136 roles at the studio. In an interview with YouTube channel Auf ein Bier, Hays said Microsoft "burned a lot of bridges" in the industry and "fundamentally doesn't understand art, they don't understand games." The layoffs were announced one day before the release of Doom: The Dark Ages DLC, right after the team had endured an especially gruelling crunch to finish it.
