Van Dijk welcomes Araújo deal as Liverpool near signing Barcelona defender on loan

Virgil van Dijk says he is looking forward to partnering Ronald Araújo at centre-back, with Liverpool close to completing a loan deal for the Barcelona defender. Van Dijk played almost an hour in his first pre-season appearance, a 3-2 home loss to Monaco at Anfield after Liverpool had led 2-0. The Dutchman conceded a first-half penalty by fouling Aleksandr Golovin, who then scored the spot-kick himself.
