Sony drops physical PS discs from 2028 — publishers gain $14 per game sold

Sony has announced it will stop producing physical discs for new PlayStation games from January 2028. Industry calculations show that dropping boxed editions will deliver publishers an extra $14 in profit per game sold. Players who prefer physical copies will have to switch entirely to digital distribution.
