Charities warn: torn clothes and dirty underwear are not donations — they're a burden
Warsaw's Serce Miasta Foundation warns that 30 percent of donated clothing it receives is fit only for disposal, forcing the charity to spend thousands of zlotys on waste removal instead of supporting beneficiaries. Founder and president Lusia Żagałkowicz says items such as torn clothes, dirty underwear and unmatched shoes humiliate recipients rather than help them. Donors often use charity collection points as a convenient way to clear out their wardrobes.
