Typhoon Dolphin: over a million evacuated in China as record rain hits Shanghai
Typhoon Dolphin made landfall in eastern China, prompting the evacuation of more than one million people by Sunday evening. Wenzhou, a coastal city in Zhejiang province, alone relocated over 900,000 residents and opened more than 1,500 emergency shelters. Neighbouring Fujian province moved nearly 99,000 people from high-risk areas. Authorities warned that days of intense rainfall could trigger widespread flooding and landslides as the storm tracks north and further inland.
