Shoplifting down 19%, but thieves are targeting more expensive goods
The number of shoplifting incidents fell by nearly 19% in the first half of the year, mainly due to fewer petty thefts. At the same time, thefts classified as criminal offences are increasing, with thieves targeting higher-value goods. The overall problem is not disappearing — it is shifting in nature.
