Chinese detainee died by suicide in Melbourne — staff warned of risk less than 24 hours earlier
Internal documents show that staff at a Melbourne immigration detention centre were warned a Chinese citizen had expressed suicidal ideation and had a history of self-harm less than 24 hours before she died. The facility is run by a US private prison company. Serious questions have been raised about whether she was properly monitored and placed in an appropriate room. China's government has expressed "grave concern" over the death.
