Trump's battleships priced at $275bn — Congress pushes back

The Congressional Budget Office has priced a fleet of 15 nuclear surface warships — dubbed "Trump's battleships" — at $275 billion, far exceeding the Navy's own estimates. The prototype alone would cost the equivalent of nearly 17 Polish Miecznik frigates. Congress is resisting the programme partly because the weapons systems intended for the vessels are not yet ready. Total programme costs could reach $800 billion.
