Switching to electric stoves slashes indoor nitrogen dioxide levels

A Stanford University study found that switching from gas or propane stoves to electric ones dramatically cuts household exposure to nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), a harmful indoor air pollutant linked to respiratory disease. Gas and propane burners release NO₂ even during normal cooking, degrading indoor air quality. Researchers say replacing the stove is one of the simplest steps households can take to improve health.
