World's first air-breathing satellite thruster set for orbital test by Spanish startup Kreios Space

Spanish company Kreios Space plans to launch the world's first satellite using air-breathing electric propulsion (ABEP), which scoops up air from Earth's upper atmosphere, ionises it and expels it as thrust. The technology eliminates the need for liquid fuel for satellites operating in very low Earth orbit (VLEO), the region roughly 60 to 400 kilometres above Earth. If successful, it could enable sustained satellite operations in VLEO without refuelling.
