China: coal's share of electricity output drops below 50%, but new plants still being built
In the first half of this year, coal accounted for less than 50% of China's total electricity production for the first time. China is rapidly expanding renewable energy, which makes up a growing share of its energy mix. Despite this milestone, new coal power plants are still being built, meaning coal capacity continues to grow.
