Japan debates nuclear weapons on 81st Nagasaki anniversary

Nagasaki held a ceremony at its Peace Park memorial to mark the 81st anniversary of the US atomic bombing at the end of World War II. At the same time, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's government has opened a debate on abandoning Japan's postwar non-nuclear principles, amid growing doubts about the reliability of the US security umbrella. The shift is driven by China's increasingly assertive military posture in the region.
