Meta ordered to pay $942 million over youth mental health harm in New Mexico
A New Mexico judge ordered Meta to pay $567 million into a youth mental health fund, ruling its social media platforms create a "public nuisance." This comes on top of $375 million in civil penalties awarded by a jury earlier in the same case, bringing the total to $942 million. Attorney General Raul Torrez sued Meta in Santa Fe County court in 2023, and a jury found in March 2026 that the company misled parents about the safety of its apps.
