Gold metacrystal brings quantum tech to room temperature

Scientists have created the first quantum material capable of sorting and transporting different quantum states of light at room temperature, potentially eliminating the need for bulky ultra-cold refrigeration. The ultrathin "metacrystal" is carved from a gold film with hundreds of microscopic structures and acts as a filter directing different kinds of quantum light along separate paths while preserving the information they carry.
