Student solar EV wraps 1,700 cells around ultra-light body and gains charge on a daily commute

Clemson University students, backed by BMW, built the Deep Orange 17 — a 1,212-pound solar EV coupe covered in more than 1,700 photovoltaic cells. The car reportedly ends a 12-mile urban daily commute with more charge than it started with. The research project explores solar power as a practical part of an electric vehicle's propulsion strategy.
