Bencic beats Townsend after 3.5-hour battle at Canadian Open in Toronto

Belinda Bencic defeated Taylor Townsend 6:7 (5-7), 7:6 (7-4), 6:4 at the Canadian Open in Toronto. Despite being the clear favourite, Bencic needed nearly 3.5 hours to get past the American, who was ranked 96 places below her. Bencic advanced to the next round of the WTA tournament.
