EU sets new rules for genome-edited plants — distinct from GMO
The EU is introducing new regulations for so-called New Genomic Techniques (NGT), which allow precise modification of plant DNA without inserting foreign genetic material. Unlike traditional GMO, NGT can produce crop varieties more resistant to diseases and climate stress. The new rules are intended to ease the adoption of these technologies in European agriculture.
