DRC's record Ebola outbreak hampered by active conflict and armed groups

The Democratic Republic of Congo is facing its largest Ebola outbreak on record, caused by the Bundibugyo strain, which spread undetected for months before being correctly identified. The response has been severely hampered by the difficulty of distinguishing the disease from other common illnesses and the operational challenges of working in an active conflict zone, according to Heather Kerr of the International Rescue Committee.
