Mediterranean migrant smuggling network dismantled — 78 arrested in Spain-led raid

European authorities led by Spain have dismantled what they describe as one of the largest criminal networks running migrant smuggling across the western Mediterranean. The operation resulted in 78 arrests. The network operated along one of Europe's busiest migration routes. Officials called the raid one of the biggest blows against the smuggling underworld in the region.
