Astronomers map half a million supermassive black holes across the sky
The Black Hole Mapper project, part of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS), has released an all-sky map cataloguing over 500,000 supermassive black holes — the largest such catalogue in astronomy history. The dataset is intended to help scientists study the large-scale structure of the universe and the evolution of galaxies.
