Meta ordered to pay $567 million over child safety on Facebook and Instagram

A US state court has ordered Meta to pay $567 million and restrict certain Facebook and Instagram features for children, in the largest child-safety ruling ever issued against the company. The court found that Meta created a "public nuisance" that endangered young users. Dozens of other US states are pursuing separate lawsuits accusing Meta of harming children's mental health.
