Record 42°C heat fails to shut Hungary's Paks nuclear plant, blackout avoided

Record-breaking heat reaching 42°C in Hungary threatened the Paks nuclear power plant, which generates around 46% of the country's electricity. The feared worst-case scenario — a complete plant shutdown — did not materialise, and temperatures are slowly easing. The heatwave has put Central European energy infrastructure under severe stress.
