ECB criticises plan to fund Polish defence from central bank profits

The European Central Bank issued a critical opinion on a Polish proposal to fund national defence through National Bank of Poland profits, warning it could breach EU rules and undermine central bank independence. The plan was backed by president-elect Nawrocki and NBP governor Glapiński. The NBP responded that its actions remain lawful and within its mandate.
