NASA observes magnetar for 140+ hours — possible proof of a phenomenon predicted 90 years ago

NASA scientists used the IXPE telescope to conduct over 140 hours of observations of magnetar 1E 1547-5408 between March and April. The results may confirm a behaviour of empty space predicted by physicists 90 years ago but never directly observed. Magnetars are neutron stars with magnetic fields around a trillion times stronger than the most powerful permanent magnets ever built on Earth.
