Neutrinos from Earth's interior reveal new picture of the mantle

In a laboratory 2 kilometres underground, scientists detected geoneutrinos — particles emitted by radioactive decay inside Earth's mantle — using a detector filled with around 7,000 tonnes of ultrapure water. The findings provide a new picture of the planet's interior structure and composition.
