Iceland and Montenegro could join the European Union simultaneously in 2028, according to Politico. The scenario depends on Icelandic voters approving the resumption of accession negotiations on 29 August. Iceland's foreign minister Thorgerdur Katrin Gunnarsdottir described the simultaneous accession as "absolutely possible".
