Slovakia once pitied Poland — now it looks up to its neighbour
For years Poland and Slovakia competed as "cheaper country" destinations — Poles crossed the border for beer and skiing, Slovaks for diapers and bathroom tiles. Slovakia adopted the euro early, rapidly built car factories and viewed sprawling, chaotic Poland with mild condescension. Over time, however, the dynamic shifted and Poland became the regional model that others admire.
