Analyst: Ceuta crisis fabricated and exploited ahead of Spanish elections

Carmen Claudín, an analyst at Barcelona's CIDOB think tank, claims the migration crisis in Ceuta was deliberately fabricated by Morocco and is already being exploited ahead of elections in Spain. She notes that Ceuta and Melilla have a special status — entry does not automatically grant access to the Schengen area. Morocco allegedly spread disinformation on social media encouraging migrants to cross the border. Claudín also points to an unclear role played by Washington in the affair.
