Adams loses first British Championship game since 1988 – teen Bazakutsa ends 87-game unbeaten run

British chess grandmaster Michael Adams, 54, suffered his first British Championship defeat since 1988 in round four, losing to 18-year-old Ukrainian talent Svyatoslav Bazakutsa, who lives in Liverpool, after 60 moves in a rook endgame. The loss ended Adams' 87-game unbeaten run at the championship. Adams has won nine British titles and was chasing a record-equalling tenth, one short of Jonathan Penrose's all-time mark.
