Central and Eastern Europe breaks heat records — Slovakia hits 42°C, Poland shuts two power plants
Slovakia set a new national temperature record of 42°C (108°F) in Dolné Plachtince on Thursday, as Austria and Hungary also registered record highs. In Poland, the extreme heat forced authorities to shut down the Kozienice and Połaniec power plants. The ongoing heatwave has been driving wildfires and droughts across the continent.
