HP, Asus and Acer quietly add Chinese CXMT DRAM to laptops — Samsung and Micron watching

HP, Asus and Acer have qualified DRAM from China's ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) and begun using it in small volumes in select laptop models sold outside the United States. The cautious diversification is driven partly by fear of retaliation from Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron, who hold over 90% of the DRAM market. CXMT chips currently cost no less than Samsung's and cannot be ordered beyond the current quarter.
