US to shut down organ procurement group that tried to harvest living man's organs
The US Department of Health and Human Services has begun the process to decertify Network for Hope (NFH), a Kentucky-based organ procurement organization, following a 2021 incident in which it was accused of attempting to harvest organs from a man who was still alive. Losing its certification would effectively shut down NFH, which serves Kentucky and parts of Indiana, Ohio and West Virginia. NFH said it "strongly disagrees" with the finding and will appeal.
