AMD acquires Taalas, a startup that hardwires AI models directly into chips

AMD has acquired chip startup Taalas, which develops processors with AI models hardwired directly into the silicon. Taalas' current chip runs a small version of Meta's Llama 3.1 model natively, without requiring separate software. The company is working on chips capable of running larger, more advanced AI models.
