"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" hits $500 million in its opening week

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" has broken a string of box-office records in its opening week in the US. It earned nearly $170 million on its opening day (including $72 million from previews) and set an all-time opening-weekend record of $360.1 million. After seven days the cumulative gross exceeded $482 million, putting it on track for at least $500 million in its first week.
