DeepMind's WeatherNext AI predicts hurricanes earlier than any rival system

Google DeepMind has unveiled its WeatherNext model, which will be open-sourced and can accurately predict both the track and intensity of hurricanes using lower-resolution weather data than existing systems. The model outperforms current forecasting tools for extreme weather events. Researchers acknowledge they do not yet fully understand how WeatherNext achieves its results.
