Senate committee votes 8-7 to hold Fauci in contempt of Congress over COVID hearing

A US Senate committee voted 8-7 along strict party lines to hold Anthony Fauci in contempt of Congress after he declined to answer questions at a hearing about his role in the lead-up and response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The matter will now go before the full Senate, where it would be subject to the filibuster. If the Senate votes to hold Fauci in contempt, the Department of Justice would decide whether to prosecute him.
