St Gotthard road tunnel to close for 12 nights in August due to cracking slab

Switzerland's St Gotthard road tunnel, one of the longest in Europe, will be temporarily closed for maintenance after its slab began to crack. The closures are scheduled for 12 nights between 10 and 27 August. The tunnel is a vital Alpine transit route used by millions of vehicles each year.
