Senate rejects Szpytma — IPN chief selection restarts from scratch

The Polish Senate on Thursday voted 50–38 against approving Dr. Mateusz Szpytma as head of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN), with one abstention. Although Szpytma had secured a Sejm majority, Senate approval was also required. The selection process must now restart from scratch; the post has been vacant for a year since Karol Nawrocki left.
