ECB warns: funding defence from NBP profits may violate EU Treaty

The European Central Bank has issued an opinion stating that the National Bank of Poland should not take on the financing of public tasks such as defence expenditure. The warning concerns Polish draft laws proposing to fund military spending from NBP profits, including proceeds from gold sales. The ECB flagged a potential violation of the EU Treaty.
