WHO urges 'intensified' response as DR Congo Ebola cases near 4,000

The seventeenth Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, declared in mid-May, has already killed more than 1,700 people as the number of infections approaches 4,000. The World Health Organisation has called for an "intensified" medical response, deploying teams of doctors to the country. Specialised treatment centres have been set up in the worst-hit provinces while vaccine trials continue.
