Russian strikes kill 17 in Kyiv as Ukraine's air defenses fail to intercept any missiles
Russian missile strikes on Kyiv and the surrounding region killed 17 people and wounded dozens, with Ukraine's depleted air defenses failing to intercept a single incoming missile. President Zelensky renewed calls to allies for more air defense systems. The UN reported that July was the deadliest month for Ukrainian civilians since April 2022. Russian forces are now just 20 km from the city of Kramatorsk.
