US may lose measles-elimination status it achieved 25 years ago
The United States declared measles elimination in 2000, but has already reported more cases this year than in all of the previous year. In mid-August, a panel of experts will review the evidence to determine whether the country has maintained its elimination status. The author, who chairs the review committee, warns that a landmark public health achievement may be on the verge of being reversed due to declining vaccination rates.
