Telescope captures sodium and lithium plume from SpaceX rocket's moon impact

The European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope in Chile detected sodium and lithium "spectral lines" in a plume of lunar dust kicked up when part of a SpaceX rocket slammed into the Moon at 8,690 km/h. The plume is thought to have spanned tens of kilometres, providing the first direct chemical observations of such an impact.
