Claude AI topples 87-year-old math conjecture with a tiny formula

A mathematician at Anthropic used the AI model Claude Fable 5 to find a remarkably simple counterexample disproving the Jacobian conjecture, a famous problem unsolved for over a century. The result shows the conjecture is false in three or more dimensions, though the original two-dimensional version remains open. It is among the first cases of AI helping to defeat a classical mathematical conjecture.
