UN rights chief alarmed as Iran executes 56 on security charges since March

UN Human Rights Chief Volker Türk has raised alarm over a surge in executions in Iran since March. A total of 56 people have been put to death on national security-related charges, including 27 in cases connected to January's protests. Türk called on Iranian authorities to halt the use of capital punishment as a tool of political repression.
