Senate confirms Erica Schwartz as CDC director, ending nearly year-long vacancy

The US Senate confirmed Erica Schwartz as CDC director on Wednesday in a 51-44 vote, ending a vacancy of nearly one year. The post was left empty after Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. fired her predecessor. Schwartz becomes the second permanent leader of the agency since the start of the second Trump administration.
