Antibiotic resistance in children rising sharply, could hit crisis levels by 2035

A study published in JAMA Pediatrics reviewed two decades of data and projects steep increases in antibiotic resistance among common bacteria like Acinetobacter baumannii and Klebsiella by 2035. Antibiotic resistance already contributed to 840,000 deaths in children under 5 in 2021. Study co-author Dr. Yanhong Jessika Hu stressed the forecasts are "warning scenarios, not inevitable outcomes." Without action, the death toll among young children could rise significantly.
