Encapsulation epitaxy grows air-stable 2D superconductors for quantum circuits

A new "encapsulation epitaxy" technique grows air-stable two-dimensional superconducting films at the interface of a 2D–3D hybrid substrate. Unlike conventional thin superconducting films, these remain stable when exposed to air, overcoming a major fabrication hurdle. The advance holds promise for building more reliable superconducting quantum circuits.
