Kelvin–Helmholtz instabilities found to be widespread drivers of plasma mixing on the Sun
New high-spatial-resolution observations of the solar photosphere, published in Nature, reveal that Kelvin–Helmholtz instabilities are far more widespread on the Sun than previously known and actively drive plasma mixing. The solar scene turns out to be considerably more complex and dynamic than prior observations suggested. The findings reshape the understanding of physical processes at the Sun's surface.
